PvE-analyseRock Throw *Rock Slide *Water Gun Hydro Pump Unlike its pre-evolved state, Omastar has access to a full Rock-type moveset, making it a possible Rock-type raid attacker, especially when excluding Shadows, Megas, and Primals. However, this comes with a major downside: the best moveset, Rock Throw and Rock Slide, requires an Elite TM.
As a Water-type attacker, Omastar still faces stiff competition from the vast number of strong Water-types. With Water starter Pokémon being both stronger and easier to obtain, investing Stardust and Candy into Omastar for raiding doesn't make much sense.
Omastar is a competent Gym defender, but should be used with caution. Due to its double weakness to Grass, if other defenders in the Gym share this weakness, it makes things easier for attackers.
For optimal defense, pair Omastar with Pokémon that resist Grass to maximize your chances of earning Pokécoins.
PvP-analyseMud Shot Rock Slide Hydro Pump Mud Shot Rock Slide Rock Blast Mud Shot Rock Slide Rock Blast Where Omastar is viable, it ranks about as low as Omanyte. The only upside is that its best moveset doesn’t require an Elite TM to be viable, consisting of Mud Shot, Hydro Pump, and Ancient Power.
However, its crippling Grass weakness is evident in its major losses against both Shadow and normal Jumpluff. On the flip side, Omastar can secure wins against both versions of Skorupi, Tentacool, and both versions of Nidoran♀.
Omastar drops even lower in rankings, making it a less-than-optimal team choice. Swampert and Quagsire are far better alternatives and also require an Elite TM for the best moveset.
If you insist on using Omastar, you will need the legacy charged move Rock Slide, alongside Mud Shot and Hydro Pump for the best performance.
Omastar maintains a low ranking in Ultra League, but this time we double down on Rock attacks by swapping Hydro Pump for Rock Blast.
This adjustment allows Omastar to take down Talonflame and Skeledirge, but at this level, it also gets completely destroyed by Virizion and Annihilape.
To compete in Master League, you must max out a perfect Omastar—for very little return. While it picks up big wins against most Fire-type Pokémon, it also suffers huge losses against the many Legendary Pokémon in this league, regardless of type matchups.
